Alpha Phi gives back!
Illinois Alpha Phi always begins its year in September by stuffing school kits for the Mennonite Central Committee. As part of the world understanding goal of ADK, these bags are donated to be used around the world where there is need. Items put in the bags include spiral notebooks, pencils,a ruler, colored pencils, and erasers. Members enjoy working together to stuff the bags. Usually we donate between 90 and 100 bags each year.

Theta Chapter's St. Jude's Thematic Dinner
Illinois Theta Chapter has an annual tradition: enjoying a St. Jude’s thematic dinner. One well- traveled member, Mary Niemi, decides the focus country and then plans the dinner. This year she created a delicious Swedish dinner for twenty-four guests. Mary has planned and hosted twenty- some St. Jude’s meals, once having hosted thirty-five guests. She researches, plans, and with committee help, prepares and then donates all of the food. The members and guests contribute money for the meal, which is then donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Theta members enjoy the opportunity to become better acquainted with our State Officers and committee members. This year nine State officers were able to enjoy the Swedish dinner with us. Mary and her husband have visited many of these countries, so they prepare a slide show and narrative about each themed country. The printed menus, in the native language, have been interpreted into English. This year Theta is delighted that our Swedish dinner enabled us to donate $500 to St. Jude’s!

Mu Chapter's Addie Kay Program
Our chapter created our own version of "Flat Stanley" called "Addie Kay" to travel along with each of us throughout the year. We printed her out from the computer to be 5" x 7", we were able to get 2 to an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of white card stock. You can make her any size you would like, smaller or larger. At one of our program meetings we cut out little Addie Kay and decorated her with markers, colored pencils, scrapbooking papers, etc. Some of our members decided to make her last a little better by laminating her between a couple pieces of clear contact paper. Each sister has taken pictures with her throughout their yearly travels and shared their pictures with our website coordinator to put on our chapter website. We then bring up the slideshow from the internet to watch during one of future meetings.
